Grade 9 - 10 History

Recruiting Ad - Maclean's Magazine November 15, 1943Discover Canadian Identity, External Forces Shaping Canada’s Policies, Canada’s Participation in War, Peace and Security by effectively utilizing the museum to:

  • Help demonstrate an understanding of the elements of Canadian identity
  • Help demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which outside forces and events have shaped Canada’s policies
  • Help in understanding Canada’s participation in war, peace and security
  • Help demonstrate an understanding of how artistic expression reflects the Canadian identity (art, poetry,)
  • Explain how and why the federal government has tried to promote a common Canadian identity through various agencies such as CBC, National Film Board, Heritage Canada and assess the effectiveness of these efforts. By this investigation students will better learn how to distinguish between fact and inference in primary and secondary sources (eg. Artifacts, visual, articles, journals etc)
  • Assist in producing effective timelines that chart and identify significant historical events related to WWI and WWII
  • Help describe how Canadians, including local people, contributed at home and overseas to the war effort during WWI and WWII
  • Help explain how significant individuals like Billy Bishop contributed to the growing sense of Canadian identity during WWI
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of Canada’s military contributions in WWI and II
