Grade 2-Traditions and Celebrations - Owen Sound Parade honouring BishopOutcomes

  • Use the museum as a primary source of research while utilizing educational materials available as secondary sources to compliment the tour
  • Develop inquiry/research and communication skills by asking questions, and observing museum artifacts
  • Be able to describe the local and national contribution of Billy Bishop
  • Demonstrate an understanding that traditions and history are passed down from parents and grandparents
  • Develop vocabulary such as democracy, commemorate, freedom, contribution, heritage, occupation, celebrations, etc.
  • Communicate the results of inquiries using reading, pictorial, simple maps and diagrams, models, and oral and written description
  • Identify ways in which heritage and traditions are passed on (through community celebrations such as Remembrance Day, Canada Day, the Canadian flag etc)
  • Look at Bishop’s family tree, (family history) and the influences of his family, and community on his life. Theme can be further developed to allow children to construct a simple family tree of the Bishop family, and then create their own family tree, comparing the trees, and family events
  • Identify how Remembrance Day celebrations reflect their own heritage and Canadian identity
