Grade One - Heritage, Citizenship and Social Studies Outcomes

  • Students will identify Billy Bishop as a significant Canadian in WWI and II, and a local hero
  • Compare themselves to Billy Bishop as a child (birthplace, address, phone number, school name)
  • Understand a simple time line/sequence of events from Bishop’s childhood to his death
  • Will demonstrate an understanding of rights and responsibilities in a way that shows respect for the rights and property of other people by learning and observing museum rules, and the importance of maintaining historical artifacts
  • Develop inquiry/research and communication skills by asking questions, and observing museum artifacts
  • Use the museum as a primary source of research while utilizing educational materials available as secondary sources to compliment the tour
  • Communicate the results of inquiries using reading, pictorial, simple maps, symbols, and diagrams, and oral and written description
