Grade 9 & 10 – Billy Bishop Heritage Museum

World War I - Bishop (Left) and King George VThe Billy Bishop Museum can be used as a vital primary (artifacts and documents) and secondary resource (in house resource material), in studying Canadian and world studies. Suggestions for further study through our School Program are aimed at encouraging students to see history’s close ties with arts and languages.

Visiting the museum can assist students in understanding the events, emotions, struggles, challenges and impact of WWI and WWII that produce the present and will shape the future. The annual tribute to local veterans in the fall of each year will assist learners to relate through personalities, and historical stories to those who helped shape our nation, citizenship and heritage. This primary resource can provide insight into historical figures’ situations and decisions. Victorian architecture can be seen by closely examining the features of Billy Bishop’s family home.
The museum provides a great setting for students to connect to their heritage, and then communicate their findings effectively via language, art, or multimedia presentation.

Through a guided tour students can read, ask questions, and effectively use historical research methods to investigate topics and issues in history.
